한양대학교 ERICA Residential College 센터는 2025학년도 1학기를 맞아 다음과 같은 다채로운 문화 체험 프로그램을 진행하였습니다.
첫 번째로, 안산시에 위치한 ‘안산시행복예절관’에서 한국 전통문화 체험 활동을 실시하였습니다. 학생들은 전통 한복을 직접 착용하며 오방색(황·청·백·적·흑)에 담긴 상징성을 배웠습니다. 한복 착용 후에는 공수배와 큰절 등 기본 배례법을 익혀 한국의 전통 예절을 체험하였습니다. 한 외국인 유학생은 결혼 여부에 따라 여성의 한복 색상이 달라진다는 사실에 놀라움을 표시하며, 색으로 혼인 상태를 구분하는 전통이 인상 깊었다고 소감을 전했습니다. 이어진 다도 체험에서는 전통 다구의 명칭·배치·사용법을 배우고, 차를 우리고 마시며 몸과 마음을 수양하는 다도의 의미를 직접 체득하였습니다.
두 번째로, 창의인재원 교육관 205호에서 떡 만들기 체험을 진행하였습니다. 참가자들은 흰 찹쌀반죽에 천연 색가루를 섞어 반죽을 만들고, 백앙금·팥앙금에 다양한 부재료를 더해 속재료를 완성하였습니다. 이후 반죽에 앙금을 넣어 모양을 잡고 각자 고른 고물을 입힌 뒤, 스티커와 리본으로 포장해 개인별 작품을 완성하였습니다. 처음으로 떡을 맛본 일부 학생은 한국 전통 간식을 직접 만들고 시식해 볼 수 있어 뜻깊은 경험이었다고 전했습니다.
마지막으로, 비누 만들기 체험을 진행하였습니다. 학생들은 기본 베이스 비누 위에 원하는 그림을 그리고, 충분히 건조시킨 후 정성스럽게 포장하였습니다. 참가자들은 평소 접하기 어려운 공예 활동을 통해 창의력을 발휘하고 색다른 만족감을 얻었다고 이야기했습니다.
이와 같은 문화 체험 프로그램은 한국 학생과 외국인 유학생 모두에게 전통문화를 이해하고 상호 교류할 수 있는 기회를 제공하였으며, RC 공동체의 문화적 다양성을 한층 풍부하게 만드는 계기가 되었습니다.
Hanyang University’s ERICA Residential College Center organized the following cultural‐experience programs during the first semester of 2025.
First, students visited the Ansan City Etiquette Center to immerse themselves in Korean traditions. Participants tried on traditional hanbok while learning the symbolism of the five cardinal colors—yellow, blue, white, red and black. After donning their attire, they practiced basic bowing etiquette such as the gongsu-bae and the deep formal bow. One international student remarked that she was fascinated to discover that the color of a woman’s hanbok historically indicated her marital status. The session concluded with a tea ceremony, where students learned the names, placement and usage of traditional tea utensils and experienced firsthand how the slow brewing process cultivates calmness of body and mind.
Second, a rice-cake workshop was held in Room 205 of the Creative Talent Education Building. Students colored glutinous-rice dough with natural powders, prepared fillings using white and red bean pastes, and shaped their own tteok before coating them with toppings of their choice. After decorating their packages with stickers and ribbons, several participants—some tasting tteok for the first time—said the workshop offered a rare and meaningful glimpse into Korean culinary culture.
Finally, students took part in a soap-making activity. They painted designs onto base soaps, allowed them to dry thoroughly and wrapped them in decorative packaging. Many commented that this hands-on craft let them express their creativity and enjoy a novel experience beyond their regular studies.
These cultural programs provided both Korean and international students with valuable opportunities to explore Korean traditions, interact across cultures and enrich the cultural diversity of the RC community.
